Colorado/Arizona/New Mexico July 2001
Because we had had a totally private wedding, we offered to take Michael's sons on a trip to the USA. Geoffrey decided that he was too busy to come, but Timothy did and we had a wonderful time.
The travel arrangements were interesting. Rhonda was already back home in her Colorado home post-honeymoon and Michael was working in Chicago. Tim flew using Michael's air miles from Manchester, UK -> Brussels, Belgium -> Chicago O'Hare, USA (where he met Michael in the airport) -> Dallas Ft Worth -> Colorado Springs.Michael flew from Chicago to Denver where he met up with Rhonda. They then drove down to Colorado Springs, where they collected Tim. Phew!
After this we traveled through southern Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico and back into Colorado. On the way we stayed in or visited: Durango-Silverton Railway, Grand Canyon (where Tim took a helicopter flight over the canyon), Williams (on Route 66), Mesa Verde, Oak Creek and Sedona, went over the Great Divide, visited Rhonda's parents in Silvercliff, CO, had tea at the Dushanbe Tea House in Boulder and finally ended at Rhonda's Loveland home. Here we parted company. Rhonda stayed behind to close up her house whilst Michael and Tim flew to Chicago. There Tim was able to do some more sight-seeing with visits to Carsons Ribs Restaurant, Ed Debevic's Restaurant and a trip to Comiskey Park (home of the Chicago White Sox baseball team and since renamed US Cellular Field). Finally it was time for Tim to fly back to Manchester (direct!) and shortly after that Rhonda joined Michael for some tearful farewells with her Chicago best friends. Finally, Rhonda and Michael flew to London, en route to Swindon where they would start their new life together.
